Generally speaking, a self confident person will have a clearer knowledge of what they are able to achieve and are more likely to be successful in creating what they want. Plus they are more likely to accept the feedback and have the flexibility to learn and grow from the information they receive. On the flip side of the coin, a lack of confidence may prevent an individual from making decisions or taking actions towards what they want. In the context of business this could stop a person acquiring executive skills, managerial and planning abilities - all of which are mandatory and basic skills required for today's business world. An individuals pre-occupation with other people's judgement of their work and abilities may cause the individual to become too self-critical, which in of itself distracts the person from achieving goals and outcomes that they would have otherwise been able to accomplish. Individuals who have self confidence, have belief in their own abilities and their own aptitudes. People with self confidence are able to do what they feel is right and they don't expect or need the approval of their peers. The individuals self confidence can also act as a trigger to promote confidence in others, eg friends, staff members, clients, the boss - are more likely to trust the individual or what they are telling them when the individual appears self-confident. Different life experiences can contribute to low self confidence. Successes and failures, for example at school or in someone's professional life, can play a significant role: losing a job or failing an exam are among the several experiences that will have a negative impact on a persons self confidence. The good news is that there are tools and techniques to build and improve self confidence. The first step to develop self confidence is to discover and understand who you are and what your strengths are. Recognizing that you are allowed not to be perfect and that their is no failure only feedback. Acceptance of self is vital to building self confidence.
