In this blog, we will look at the notion of energy and ask; is vibration and energy important when working with clients? Firstly we have to understand what vibration and energy is when we're working with clients. Most of us have heard about the different types of brainwaves that we use as human beings - Beta, Alpha, Theta and Delta.WHAT ARE BETA WAVES? - are characteristic of an engaged mind, which is highly alert and well focused. Beta activity is moving quickly mentally, fast activity and tends to dominate the normal waking state of consciousness when-attention is directed towards the outside world. Typically detected in the frontal lobes, the area of the pituitary gland (where decisions are managed), Beta is usually seen on both sides of the brain in geometric distribution. It may be absent or reduced in areas of brain damage. The 'voice' of Beta can be described as being that nagging little inner critic (the little voice in your head) that gets louder the higher you go into range. Therefore, with a majority of adults operating at Beta, it's little surprise that stress is today's most common health problem. Beta waves are engaged when the brain is aroused or processing activities, such as: * involved conversations with others that command your full attention * complex problem solving and assessment of situations * public speaking, lectures or teaching informationWHAT ARE ALPHA BRAINWAVES? - are slower than beta and can represent a relaxed awareness in the mind. This rhythm is seen when the brain sets itself to rest or reflect. Alpha rates are increased by closing the eyes and relaxing, yet are offset by opening one's eyes or any concentrated effort. Alpha is usually best detected in the frontal regions of the head, on each side of the brain. Alpha is the major rhythm seen in normal relaxed adults and is typically regarded as the common relaxation mode beyond the age of 13. It is regarded as the way into your subconscious (or unconscious) mind and lies at the base of your conscious awareness. The voice of Alpha is your intuition, which becomes clearer and more profound the closer you get to 7.5Hz. Alpha waves move towards deep relaxation, imagination and intuitive thinking, as they accompany: * a relaxed mind after complex thinking into a mode of relaxation * meditation and setting the mind's attention to itself, away from outside distractions * recovery from stressful thoughts and emotional despairWHAT ARE THETA WAVES? - can indicate drowsiness, daydreaming, the first stage of sleep or 'indirect' imagination/thinking. Theta activity is not often seen in awake adults (unless engaged in a meditative practice), but is perfectly normal in alert children up to 13 years and in most sleep. It is at the Alpha-Theta border, from 7Hz to 8Hz, where the optimal range for visualization, mind programming and using the creative power of your mind begins. You can see how NLP majors on having optimum states where this can occur. It's the mental state which you consciously create your reality. At this frequency, you are conscious of your surroundings however your body is in deep relaxation. Theta brainwaves are often related to: * accessing subconscious information that eludes the conscious mind * hynagogic states like 'daydreaming' * reductions in body rhythms, such as: heart rate and breathingWHAT ARE DELTA WAVES? - can reveal deep sleep or slow 'background' thinking. Much like bass sound, Delta tends to be the highest in amplitude and the slowest waves. Delta is often associated with deep sleep. Certain frequencies, in the delta range, have been shown to trigger the body's healing and growth mechanisms. Delta is the realm of your subconscious mind, and the way into the universal mind, where information received is otherwise unavailable at the conscious level. The NOW State, which I teach on my NLP trainings will be operating between Alpha Theta. Interestingly, Delta is the dominant rhythm in infants up to one year, as well as stages 3 and 4 of dreamless sleep. Delta brainwaves are often related to and indicate: * the lowest brain frequencies, possibly indicating subconscious thoughts and information * deep and refreshing sleep that allows the body and brain to rest and repair. * extremely deep meditation and hyper-relaxed mind states It is important to note that the brain does not operate on one frequency range at any given time. All four rates occur at once, yet at varying amplitudes. A good analogy would be to relate each brainwave state to a sting on a violin. All four strings make notes, yet one or more strings can dominate the overall sound at a greater volume. The design of the Brain Evolution System lends itself to driving multiple rates at once, allowing you to entrain to a broad range of brainwave rates within each level. There are some brainwaves which are more appropriate for learning in then let's say running in all playing some kind of sport. The Delta brain wave is better for sleeping and the Alpha/Theta brain wave is better for learning and the Theta/Delta brainwave is better for healing. Therefore when we are working with clients is a good idea to get them into the kind of brainwave level which will be most appropriate for the situation.HOW DO WE DO THIS? Part of the NLP curriculum that we at NLP provide is hypnosis. What you were learning hypnosis is how to relax anybody to a degree where their brain waves are perfect for adding suggestions for learning the using the nervous system in a way that it will act like a sponge to your suggestions. Also how to get your client to the frequency whether parasympathetic nervous system is cutting in and allowing healing to take place. In a normal everyday state we have many memories which are linked back to conflict in our lives. This sets off the fight or flight stimulus fight or flight stimulus - which in turn creates the sympathetic nervous system being in a heightened state of alert. In this state healing and learning is not possible it's absolutely impossible. Of course you can learn like an animal which is an evolutionary trend but in terms of wisdom and in terms of intelligence, these faculties of healing and learning will not take place in fights or flight. In fact I do not even start working with a client's problem until I know I've got them to the degree and level of vibrational quality that will enable me to work at the deepest level. That doesn't mean that I have to be lying on the sofa with their eyes closed and completely in a comatose state. The fact they may not even be aware that they've gone into a completely appropriate states are doing the work - yet from your abilities as a hypnotherapist and NLP practitioner you can recognise the signs that your client has gone into a Alpha or Theta state. This is exactly the same when I'm running and NLP training for a group of people. Unless the room has got a vibrational quality which will allow deep learning and understanding, (Delta/Alpha/Theta) I won't proceed with complex material. I'll work on getting a run just right to be able to deliver what I wanted to be able to deliver in a way that will cause change transformation healing and learning. Of course in the corporate world I may not use those words exactly - the corporate speak is not about emotional, vibrational energies (some may run a mile from that language) and would just put them off, yet playing with these energies is exactly what I'm doing. My suggestion is that when you're working with clients, corporate in a group or therapy education or one to one, make sure that the environment is set up appropriately for change and have a good feeling state in the room is paramount to your abilities to be able to get your messages across clearly, simply and Succinctly.
